This page is dedicated to those who have volunteered their time and effort in shaping United Kenyans of Chicago and ensuring that our programs are consistent and successful. UKC has been built by the collective talents and contributions of many – from our youth to senior citizen members of our community.

2009

Volunteer of the Year: Ronald M. Bukusi

    On December 12th 2009 UKC recognized the outstanding contributions of Ronald Bukusi to the work of the organization through his work on the inaugural Summer Youth Camp (July) and Kenya Development Expo (December).

    His recognition plaque was presented by Mr. Gesowan Mwita of the Embassy of Kenya at UKC’s Annual Kenya Independence Day celebrations in Chicago.

    Ronald was active throughout the year in other voluntary capacities as well and was a key member of the the Pamoja team that created forums for the Illinois Kenyan community in Chicago, DeKalb, and Champaign-Urbana.

      Volunteer of the Year: Tony Gathungu

      On December 11th 2008 UKC recognized the outstanding contributions of Tony Gathungu to the work of the organization through his work on the Annual UKC Golf outings. The outings have always been financially successful to UKC due to the managerial efforts and contributions of Tony.

      His recognition certificated was presented by Mr. Hayelom Ayele, Director of Immigrant and Refugee Affairs, City of Chicago Commission on Human Relations at UKC’s Annual Kenya Independence Day celebrations in Chicago.
