On September 16th 2008 the Municipal Council of Thika and City of Dixon in the US signed the formal charter to become ‘sister cities’ at the Kenyan Ministry of Local Government Headquarters in Nairobi.

This created Kenya’s first Sister City in Illinois and created a partnership that will formalize business, cultural and educational exchanges run by resident committees in the two cities. The signing was witnessed by the Deputy Prime Minister, Mr Musalia Mudavadi and the US Ambassador to Kenya, Mr Michael Ranneberger. Thika became the third city to have sister – city relations with the City of Dixon.

UKC is proud to have been a consistent partner throughout the process and will continue to support the relationship in any way possible.
